The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash Anime Premieres in 2024

The official website for the forthcoming TV anime adaptation of Honobonoru500’s isekai fantasy light novel series The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash posted its first trailer featuring its opening theme song “Hate no Nai Tabi” (The journey without end) sung by Aina Suzuki (Jashin-chan in Dropkick on My Devil!).

Aina Suzuki is cast as the protagonist tamer girl, Ivy, alongside Mutsumi Tamura (Kobayashi in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) as her slime partner, Sora. The two reprise their roles from the drama CD released in November 2022.

“I am very happy to announce that I will be voicing Ivy again, following on from the Drama CD. I am very excited…!” Suzuki said. “I am so happy to be able to travel together again with Sora, played by Tamura-san. In the beginning of the story, Ivy is almost killed by her parents and the villagers as an unwanted child, which is a cruel reality for a young girl. She wants to live, so she sets out on a journey alone with her small body. I will do my best to make this a work that people will love, while watching how she grows up in the anime while being touched by the kindness of others!”

Tamura also commented: “I am very happy to be able to communicate with Ivy, and I am looking forward to seeing her not only in voice but also in anime! I will do my best to convey various emotions to everyone through my voice!”

The original novel was first serialized on the Japanese novel self-publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou starting in August 2018. Its print edition is released by TO BOOKS beginning in November 2019, with the ninth volume scheduled to release in June. The manga adaptation illustrated by To Fukino and published in TO BOOKS’ Comic Corona began in July 2020, with the fifth volume also set to release in Japan in June. Seven Seas Entertainment releases the English edition for both the light novel and manga versions, and describes the original light novel series:

In Ivy’s world, stars are everything. She’s a Tamer, born to subdue monsters and animals, but she was also born starless! With her life in danger, Ivy flees into the forest where she befriends a weak little slime named Sora—the one creature she can tame. Together, the unlikely pair set off on a journey, salvaging rubbish to survive. Along the way they’ll win hearts, evade danger, and discover there’s more to starless Ivy than meets the eye!
