THE FIRST SLAM DUNK

THE FIRST SLAM DUNK anime film, which opened in Japan on December 3 returned to first place this week at the Japanese box office with one of the best weeks for the film in the last month. This has moved the movie up six places to 31st on the all-time charts! The rest of the box office information was released today also.

As of February 26, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK has made 11.23 billion yen (US$84.55 million) on the back of 7.74 million tickets sold. It is now the 31st highest-grossing film in Japan of all time behind 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and continues to be the 12th highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan following 2013’s The Wind Rises

Slam Dunk needs to make a little less than 800 million yen to overtake The Wind Rises. Over the last week, the film made 500 million so it’s likely to overtake Hayao Miyazaki’s then-final film in a few weeks.
