THE FIRST SLAM DUNK Heads to Cinemas Across the UK, Ireland, Malta

Based on the Slam Dunk manga by Takehiko Inoue, who also wrote and directed the anime film, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK has proven to be a major hit, landing as the 11th highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan as of last month. Now it’s dribbling its way over to cinemas in the UK, Ireland and Malta thanks to distribution from Anime Limited and Toei Animation Europe with plans to release the film this summer.

Synopsis:

 

Ryota Miyagi and basketball have always been one thing. His love for this sport was transmitted to him by his older brother Sota, who died in an accident at sea when Ryota was still very young. He is the point guard of Shohoku, a team from the Kanagawa prefecture which gained a spot at Inter-High despite being unknown. Ryota is ready, together with his teammates, to face the “unbeatable” Sannoh, the champion team of the local tournament.

The original Slam Dunk TV anime aired from 1993 to 1996, with four anime films being spun off from the original anime. You can catch an on-demand replay of the TV anime on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as such:

 

Hanamichi Sakuragi, an entering freshman at Shohoku High, holds a record for being rejected by 50 girls during middle school. Ever since the last girl turned him down for a guy on the basketball team, Sakuragi’s been traumatized by the sport.
