THE FIRST SLAM DUNK Anime Film Thanks Viewers For Their Support With New Theatrical Gift

Since THE FIRST SLAM DUNK anime film opened in Japanese theaters back on December 3, the Toei Animation-produced flick has amassed 10.78 billion yen (US$80.88 million) at the box office, making it one of the highest-grossing films of all time in Japan. To celebrate this milestone and to thank viewers for their support, the movie will be giving away a “thank you” gift to those who go out and see the movie.

The newest theatrical gift will be a clear file featuring Shohoku high school’s basketball team in an emotional huddle. 500,000 clear files will be given out across Japan with distribution starting on February 24 until stocks last.

The original Slam Dunk TV anime aired from 1993 to 1996, with four anime films being spun off from the original anime. You can catch an on-demand replay of the TV anime right here on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as such:

 

Hanamichi Sakuragi, an entering freshman at Shohoku High, holds a record for being rejected by 50 girls during middle school. Ever since the last girl turned him down for a guy on the basketball team, Sakuragi’s been traumatized by the sport.

 

THE FIRST SLAM DUNK opened in Japan on December 3 in regular and IMAX theaters and expanded to Dolby Cinema screens on December 10.
