THE FIRST SLAM DUNK Anime Film Scores First Entry Into JP All-Time Box Office at 85th Place

THE FIRST SLAM DUNK anime film made its way overseas to South Korea over the last week garnering a huge response to the first film in the Slam Dunk series since 1995 with over 400,000 tickets sold. Back in Japan though, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK has made its all-time list debut at 85, marking the second Toei Animation film to hit the list in six months!

 

As of January 9, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK has made 7,685,397,970 yen (US$57.23 million) on the back of 5.2 million tickets sold. In the first week of showings in South Korea, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK made US$3,844,797 on the back of 463,351 tickets sold. With such a strong first week in the Asian country, as well as very positive word of mouth, it is expected to sell over 1 million tickets.

The original Slam Dunk TV anime aired from 1993 to 1996, with four anime films being spun off from the original anime. You can catch an on-demand replay of the TV anime right here on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as such:

THE FIRST SLAM DUNK opened in Japan on December 3 in regular and IMAX theaters and expanded to Dolby Cinema screens on December 10.
