Teasing Master Takagi-san Brings the Love to Live-Action in Film Adaptation

Just when you thought you may have had enough of the toying around with, the Teasing Master Takagi-san franchise revealed today the announcement of a live-action film! While no dates for the live-action film were not announced at the time of reporting, the director was unveiled as well as comments from the director and original manga creator.

 

Rikiya Imaizumi, who is best known for their work on Japanese films By the Window, Just Only Love and many more has been picked for the project. Imaizumi explains he hopes to “capture the ‘special atmosphere and precious moments’ that exist between Nishikata and Takagi-san” in live-action along with their “lively life with beautiful scenery.”

 

Creator Soichiro Yamamoto had to come around on the concept, explaining “When the editor in charge told me about the live-action adaptation, I didn’t really understand it, but as the director was chosen and the casting process progressed, I was like, ‘Thank you very much, I’m looking forward to it.’”

The first season of the KARAKAI JOZU NO TAKAGI-SAN anime adaptation premiered in 2018 and was simulcast on Crunchyroll. The anime was followed by an OVA in the same year. The second season of the anime was acquired and streamed by Netflix in 2019, with the third picked up by HiDIVE in 2022. An anime film opened in Japan on June 10. The manga is published in English by Yen Press under the title Teasing Master Takagi-san. Crunchyroll describes the series:

 

“I swear I’m going to tease and embarrass Takagi-san today!” Nishikata, a middle-schooler, keeps getting teased by the girl who sits next to him in class, Takagi-san. He tries every day to get back at her, but will he ever succeed? Takagi-san and Nishikata’s youthful teasing battle starts now!
