Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume anime film continues its journey through Japanese theaters, with international releases to happen later this year, climbing up to be the 25th highest-grossing film of all time at the Japanese box office, marking the third Shinkai-directed film to do so.

As of January 15, Suzume has grossed 12.49 billion yen (US$91.66 million) on the back of 9.39 million tickets sold. The film is only 210 million yen away from overtaking Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’s 24th place after delivering a double Disney dash by overtaking the live-action Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast films.
