Survey Asks Which Pokémon Games Have Been Played Most in Japan

The Japanese company Gameage R&I, which does market research and consulting about the video game industry, decided to hold a survey to find out which Pokémon games have gotten played the most in their home country.

2,604 people were brought into the survey, all of them between the ages of 15 and 59. The ones who have played Pokémon were then told to name which games. At the end of the day, the people surveyed were able to name 27 different games.

The game that came in last place was Pokémon Card GB2: Here Comes Team Great Rocket!, with a little less than five percent of the people saying they’ve played it. But which games did the best?

In 10th place was Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, which came out in 2004, with 17.2 percent of people saying they’ve played it.

After that, in ninth place, is 1996’s Pokémon Trading Card Game, which was played by 17.3 percent of people.

20.8 percent of people said they’d played the game in eighth place, the globally popular Pokémon Go.

2010’s Pokémon Black and White nabbed seventh place with 22.8 percent of people playing.

In sixth place we have 1998’s Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition, which has been played by 24.1 percent of people.

24.2 percent, or almost one in four people surveyed, have played 1996’s Pokémon Blue.

26.1 percent, or just over one in four, have played 2002’s Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.

28 percent vouched for playing 2006’s Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, putting it in third place.

The second place spot goes to 1999’s Pokémon Gold & Silver, which 37.1 percent of the surveyed gamers have played.

So what game wins as the most popular in this survey? It’s an oldie but goodie and only released in Japan: 48.7 percent, or almost half, have played 1996’s Pokémon Red & Green.
