Super Bowl Plays Ad for Super Mario Bros. Plumbing Company
During the Super Bowl yesterday a new commercial dropped for the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Nintendo and Illumination. But instead of being a trailer showing clips of the movie, it’s a silly ad for the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing company. It includes some iconic music from the past—specifically the theme song from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show—purposefully bad puns and overacting, a retro feel, and an invitation to call their plumbing company or visit their website.
Here is their website, which they promise to update. It gave this description for its plumbing service:
“Welcome to Super Mario Bros. Plumbing! We are brothers and yes, we are super.
My little (but taller) brother, Luigi, and I were tired of dealing with spiky bosses, so we jumped at the opportunity to take on Brooklyn’s plumbing problems all by ourselves.
Family-owned and operated, we aim to one-up the competition with our expert white-glove service.
Thanks for checking us out!
Mario & Luigi”
And if you call the number, a recording of Luigi will play and talk to you.
The movie is set to hit theaters this April. It will come out in America on April 7, followed by Japan on April 28.
The movie is being directed by both Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, working with a script penned by Matthew Fogel.
Looking toward the voice cast, Chris Pratt plays Mario, Charlie Day plays Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy plays Princess Peach, Jack Black plays Bowser, Seth Rogen plays Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key plays Toad, Fred Armisen plays Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson plays Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco plays Spike.
The Japanese dub actors were also previously revealed. Mamoru Miyano (who recently talked about how he doesn’t get parts he auditions for) plays Mario, Arisa Shida plays Peach, Tasuku Hatanaka plays Luigi, Kenta Miyake plays Bowser, and Tomokazu Seki plays Toad.
