SPY x FAMILY, Takopi’s Original Sin and More Manga Shortlisted for 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize

The shortlist of eight different manga was announced today for the 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award’s Grand Prize, one of the highest recognitions in manga today. While the winners of the prize won’t be revealed until last April, Asahi Shimbun, who sponsors the award posted the nominations and who got the most votes from the selection committee.

 

Here are the nominees for the award (in Japanese alphabetic order):

 

  • Umi ga Hashiru End Roll by John Tarachine
  • Onnanoko ga Iru Basho wa by Ebine Yamaji
  • SPY × FAMILY by Tatsuya Endo
  • Takopi’s Original Sin by Taizan 5
  • Cesare: Il Creatore che ha distrutto by Fuyumi Soryo
  • Tokyo Higoro by Taiyo Matsumoto
  • Hirayasumi by Keigo Shinzo
  • Yuria-sensei no Akai Ito by Kiwa Irie

Tatsuya Endo’s SPY×FAMILY is noted to have to most votes by the selection committee, making it the front-runner for this year’s Grand Prize. The final selection committee will deliberate on which manga stands above the rest with the results posted in Asahi Shimbun and on Asahi Shimbun Digital in late April with the award ceremony to be held on June 8.

 

Alongside the Grand Prize, the New Creator Prize, Short Work Prize and Special Prize will be revealed and given out on the same day. All the winners will be given an Astro Boy statue, inspired by the revolutionary manga of the same by Tezuka Osamu as well as a cash amount.
