Sokyu no Fafner Behind the Line Shares Trailer and Release News

Just so we’re all on the same page, the upcoming anime Sokyu no Fafner Behind the Line occurs after the events of the movie Sokyu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth but prior to the events in the series Fafner EXODUS. A special event just took place called “Sokyu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth Opening Day Stage Greeting & Kazuki’s Birthday Celebration,” and it used the opportunity to share a trailer and announce that the anime will receive an advanced run in Japanese theaters January 20. Here is the trailer:

This new anime is a self-contained story, and it was originally teased at the “Sōshi Minashiro Birthday Party 2017” event. It’s being described as a “peaceful spinoff.”

Credit for the original work goes to XEBEC. The anime is being made at Production I.G, with Takashi Noto back to work as the director. The script is being written by Tow Ubukata. Credit for character design goes to Hisashi Hirai. The theme song will be performed by angela. The original actors will all be reprising their roles. And the music is being composed by Tsuneyoshi Saito, who has previously worked on this franchise.

The original anime Fafner and the film Sokyu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth were both licensed by Funimation. The Fafner EXODUS series has been streamed by Crunchyroll.

Funimation gave this description of the original anime Fafner:

“Before an aggressive alien race suddenly attacked their quiet, isolated island, Kazuki and his friends knew only a life of peace. Now the people of the island look to the teenagers as their last hope for survival. As the only ones capable of controlling highly-sophisticated secret weapons—the Fafner—these young pilots fight desperately to protect their loved ones, as well as their own identities.”
