Singer yama Releases Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 Opening Theme on Premiere Day

 

 

Singer yama has confirmed that their new song “slash,” which will be featured as the opening theme for the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, will be available digitally via major subscription services on the anime’s TV premiere day in Japan, April 9. The song’s CD single will follow on May 10.

 

yama has not disclosed their gender, age, hometown, or true face. In 2018, they started posting cover song videos on YouTube, then made their major debut from Sony Music Label’s MASTERSIX FOUNDATION in October 2020. Recently, their third single song “Shikisai” was used as the ending theme for the second cour of the SPY x FAMILY TV anime.

 

The press release describes “slash” as: “an aggressive song that overturns the image of yama’s previous works. The track condenses the anime’s worldview, with a heavy rock sound and magnificent strings, matched by their singing voice that bares their emotion.”

The time-limited production edition CD jacket illustration featuring the protagonist Suletta Mercury and her Gundam Aerial Rebuild is drawn by Houtei9, the illustrator who also drew the end card illustration for the sixth episode of the TV anime first season.

The highly-anticipated new season is set to premiere in Japan on April 9, and will also be simulcast on Crunchyroll for members in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.
