Shinji Mikami Leaves Developer Tango Gameworks

Shinji Mikami

Shinji Mikami has a storied history within the game industry as a director, designer and producer, from directing the first entry in Capcom’s Resident Evil series back in 1996 to opening his own studio, Tango Gameworks, in 2010. Now it’s time for another move, because publisher Bethesda Softworks confirmed that Mikami will be leaving Tango in the coming months.

While at Tango Gameworks, Mikami directed survival horror game The Evil Within and served as executive producer for The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo and, most recently, Hi-Fi Rush. Here’s Bethesda’s full statement on his departure:

We can confirm that Shinji Mikami has decided to leave Tango Gameworks in the coming months. We thank him for his work as a creative leader and supportive mentor to young developers on The Evil Within franchise, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and, of course, Hi-Fi RUSH.

We wish Mikami-san well in the future and are excited by what lies ahead for the talented developers at Tango.

We’ll have to wait and see what Shinji Mikami and Tango Gameworks do on their own next, so stay tuned!
