She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat TV Drama to Get Season 2 in Early 2024

Japanese public broadcaster NHK announced today that the much-awaited second season of the live-action TV drama adaptation of Sakaomi Yuzaki’s cooking-themed romance manga She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat is set to premiere in early 2024 for a 20-episode run.

The manga has been serialized on KADOKAWA’s web manga site Comic Walker and several digital platforms since January 2021 and its latest fourth tankobon volume is scheduled to release in Japan on June 15. Under the title She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat, its English edition is licensed by Yen Press. Its story focuses on the love between two lesbian-identified women and depicts the difficulties and discomfort surrounding women in everyday life, centering on the solidarity of “food.”

The first season of the live-action TV drama was aired on NHK General TV for ten episodes from November to December 2022. The drama’s faithful depiction of the characters and sensitive and careful treatment of the themes of the original work were highly acclaimed, and a sequel has been eagerly awaited.

The two leading cast members—Manami Higa as Yuki Nomoto and Emi Nishino as Totoko Kasuga— are confirmed to return. “I am really happy because I myself loved this work and was hoping to play the role of Nomoto-san again someday,” Higa said. “Nomoto-san loves to cook, but there is a sense of accomplishment when someone eats it deliciously. It is the same in the world of entertainment. It is because there are people who support us that we are motivated to create, and we feel happy because we are able to convey our message. I believe that Tsukutabe’s worldview truly expresses the ‘joy of living.’ So I am happy to be able to create such a wonderful work again with a great team.”

“When I was informed of the decision to produce a sequel, I was delighted to hear that I would be able to meet the two of them,” Nishino also commented. “But at the same time, I was also filled with gratitude that the Tsukutabe drama reached the people who watched it and that I was able to play the role again because of their response. Thank you so much. I am truly looking forward to working with the lead actress, Manami Higa-san, and the rest of my favorite Tsukutabe team in this sequel as well. I am also excited to imagine how the story will progress and what kind of friends we will make.”
