Rick and Morty’s Dan Harmon, Heather Anne Campbell Rewriting One-Punch Man Film Script

Japanese Fans Rank the Coolest Manga Heroes of All Time

The Hollywood live-action One-Punch Man movie adaptation script is receiving a rewrite from Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell. Harmon, while having multiple credits as a creator and writer, is best-known as the co-creator of Rick and Morty (which has its own anime associations), and Heather Anne Campbell is a writer and producer whose credits include Rick and Morty, The Eric Andre Show, and The Twilight Zone.

The announcement came from a brief mention in The Hollywood Reporter, as part of an article about director Justin Lin.

The first word about a Hollywood One-Punch Man live-action adaptation came in 2020, with the news that Sony Pictures had acquired adaptation rights. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were tapped to write the screenplay then, so it appears that Harmon and Campbell will be working with their script. Among other things, Rosenberg and Pinkner previously worked together on Jumanji: The Next Level and Venom. The live-action One-Punch Man is being produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions.

In 2022, word came that Justin Lin, who has directed some of the movies in The Fast and the Furious franchise, was attached to direct. According to Deadline, Lin would additionally be one of the producers on the movie, as well as someone who would work on script rewrites.

One-Punch Man started out as a manga series by Yusuke Murata and ONE and quickly grew a following. It also has an ongoing anime adaptation, with season three on the horizon.

VIZ Media publishes the original One-Punch Man manga and gave this description for its plot:

Every time a promising villain appears, Saitama beats the snot out of ’em with one punch! Can he finally find an opponent who can go toe-to-toe with him and give his life some meaning? Or is he doomed to a life of superpowered boredom?
