REVIEW: I Built Secretlab’s Entire Attack on Titan Gaming Setup in One Night

After teaming up with Funimation just over a year ago on the exclusive TITAN Evo Attack on Titan Edition chair, the folks at Secretlab have returned with new additions to their Attack on Titan collection to celebrate the release of Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 1. I was able to get my hands on the full collection and, with the strength of Commander Erwin’s spirit behind me (and “Shinzo wo Sasageyo!” on repeat), set the whole dang thing up in a single evening.

Even if you’re a massive fan like me, whose house is slowly but surely becoming an Attack on Titan merch museum, the balance of design subtlety while still maintaining truth-of-character toward the series is something I really appreciate in the newest edition of the MAGPAD Desk Mat. It doesn’t make the setup feel too much like an “anime desk” and the muted dark green color fits in nicely with the rest of my regular home decor.

Just like the other desk mats in the Secretlab library, the entire underside is fully magnetic to the surface of the desk. All of the detailing, including the Scout Regiment’s iconic Wings of Freedom symbol, are actually flatly laid embroidery on durable and smooth leatherette. So, for any lefties wondering, I didn’t find that particular section of stitching interfered much with mouse usage when tested.

My personal favorite detail? If you look closely, you’ll see the metal anchor clips on either side of the mat are also themed as anti-titan ODM blades!

If you’re also building one of Secretlab’s MAGNUS desks along with your shipment of the MAGPAD Desk Mat, the first thing you’ll notice right out of the box is how incredibly well-packaged everything is. I have to admit, I was quite intimidated to tackle this next part of the project. Luckily for my fellow neophytes out there who sweat bullets at the mere thought of building complex furniture ordered online, Secretlab really lets you breathe a sigh of relief here. The setup instructions were straightforward and most of the larger components and the entirety of the power supply column (featured in MAGNUS Pro versions) were pre-assembled, clearly labeled and neatly fitted into laser-cut foam… So satisfying. Despite the absolute spaceship of a desk the 70” hydraulic sit-to-stand MAGNUS Pro XL is (the two packages weighed over 165 pounds combined!), you can rest assured that your new setup will arrive safe and scratchless.

The setup of the TITAN Evo chair was also fairly confusion-proof.  I didn’t find myself hunting around for a million tiny screws and doodads either, which was a huge plus with my rambunctious and exceedingly curious pug puppy underfoot.

As far as fit and feel, the TITAN Evo is hands-down unparalleled to any chair of its kind I’ve ever owned. As someone who works from home and packs on gameplay hours, I absolutely rely on a chair that can get me through the entire day and into the night without feeling stiff or restless. The Evo gets it done. It’s worth noting that this chair’s cushions lean a bit more on the firmer side, but for someone who needs the extra support, the comfortability factor is undeniable. After sitting in the Evo for a few hours, hopping back onto my regular-schmegular office chair was a night-and-day downgrade.

There’s no doubt that whatever you’re getting from Secretlab is going to be sturdy and bring that elevated feeling to your setup. I mean, I’ve never experienced home-office luxury such as the whispering hum of the sit-to-stand controls on the MAGNUS Pro Desk. These pieces are thoughtfully designed and built to impress. But, will it all make your reaction times while gaming as fast as Captain Levi’s? That, you’ll have to see for yourself!
