Reign of the Seven Spellblades Anime Releases First Promo Video
The upcoming Reign of the Seven Spellblades anime (a.k.a. Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai Suru in Japanese) has dropped a promo video/trailer that tells us more about the cast and crew. It also announces that the anime will debut this July, though a specific day was not given.
According to the trailer, Atsushi Tamaru plays Oliver Horn, Yuka Nukui plays Nanao Hibiya, Misuzu Yamada plays Michela McFarlane, Hitomi Ohwada plays Katie Aalto, Riho Sugiyama plays Pete Reston, and Shinsuke Sugawara plays Guy Greenwood.
The anime is being made at J.C. Staff, with Masato Matsune of Chronos Ruler helming the project as the director. Looking toward other members of the crew, the music is being composed by Kujira Yumemi, who has worked on In the Land of Leadale. Credit for character design goes to Sōta Suwa, known for working on Combatants Will Be Dispatched!
The anime is based on a light novel series by Bokuto Uno, which is published in English by Yen Press. Yen Press gave this description for the plot:
“Springtime at Kimberly Magic Academy, when new students begin their first year. One boy, clad in black robes with a white cane and sword strapped to his hip, approaches the prestigious school. This young man—Oliver—must form a bond with a katana wielding girl named Nanao if he’s to survive the dangers he’s to face at this school that is anything but what it seems!”
The first volume of the light novel series came out in Japan in fall 2018, and was illustrated by Ruria Miyuki. The guidebook Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (translated as This Light Novel Is Amazing!) put Reign of the Seven Spellblades in its number one spot in the year 2020. It has also received a manga adaptation that’s been published in Kadokawa’s Shonen Ace magazine.
