Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s new season is in full swing! So far in the Swordsmith Village Arc, the defeat of the Upper Rank demons in the Entertainment District angers Muzan Kibutsuji, and the remaining Upper Ranks are desperate to regain his favor. Meanwhile, Tanjiro recovers from that battle and sets off for the secluded Swordsmith Village to find Haganezuka.

Tanjiro and Kotetsu Don’t Know What to Make of Their Discovery

 

When Tanjiro finally scores a solid hit on the Yoriichi Type Zero training automaton, its head tumbles to the ground. The damage reveals an antique sword nestled inside its body. Tanjiro and Kotetsu have never seen anything like it, and they’re overwhelmed with excitement and curiosity.

Kotetsu immediately recognizes the old katana as a potential replacement for Tanjiro’s chipped sword, but removing it from the sheath reveals the sword has been ruined with rust over the past 300 years.

 

The Swordsmith Haganezuka Returns

 

 

Just then, a rumbling in the forest reveals the massive figure of… Haganezuka?! The swordsmith, who’s been making swords for Tanjiro since his first days in the Demon Slayer Corps, crashes through the woods to offer to repair the sword. Haganezuka has been training to become stronger and make a sword for Tanjiro that won’t break. He gives Tanjiro a katana to use while he polishes and restores the antique sword.

 

Tanjiro Reaches out to Genya

 

Back at the village inn, Tanjiro cheerfully relays this story to Genya Shinazugawa, the bad-tempered young man who undertook the Demon Slayer selection trials at the same time he did. Genya holds a grudge against Tanjiro for breaking his arm during the trials. (It’s a long story.) Tanjiro is undeterred, even after Genya kicks him out of his room, and plans to try harder to become his friend.

 

Tokito Learns a Valuable Lesson from Tanjiro

 

 

The amiable Demon Slayer also has a chance to chat with Tokito, the Mist Hashira, when he stops by Tanjiro and Nezuko’s room. Tokito is looking for his assigned swordsmith, Kanamori, and Tanjiro offers to help.

The Mist Hashira wonders why the young swordsman is always so eager to assist others, and Tanjiro tells him that good deeds come back around. His words make an unmistakable impression.

 

The Upper Rank Demons Find the Swordsmith Village

 

Thanks to Upper Rank 5 Gyokko’s lead, he and Upper Rank 4 Hantengu infiltrate the hidden village. Gyokko plans to destroy it to undermine the Demon Slayers, and Hantengu is frantic to please Muzan. As Tanjiro and Tokito talk, the door quietly slides open, and Hantengu creeps in. The Demon Slayers and Nekuzo, none of whom sensed his presence, immediately attack. Genya joins in the fray. With each mortal strike, Hantengu’s body parts transform into full-fledged demons for a total of four powerful foes. Do the Demon Slayers stand a chance?
