Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Catches More Than 20 Million Copies Sold in a Little Over a Month

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

We already knew that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet had sold a Gigantamax amount, crossing 10 million copies within the first three days of release, but Nintendo announced today that within a month and a half of being on sale, the games have already passed 20 million copies, surpassing the likes of Pokémon Let’s Go and Pokémon Legends Arceus.

As of December 31, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have sold 20.61 million copies, making it the fourth best-selling Pokémon generation and sitting behind Pokémon Gold and Silver’s lifetime sales, not including Crystal. During the same time frame, Pokémon Sword and Shield sold 16.06 million copies and is currently at 25.68 million copies sold and the second-best-selling games in the franchise behind the originals.

Updates for Pokémon Legends Arceus has also brought its total sales up to 14.63 million copies, just shy of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s sales of 14.92 million copies in September 2022, where it didn’t get any updates in these reports meaning the two Sinnoh remakes have sold less than a million copies since April 2023. Pokémon Let’s Go lifetime sales increased to 15.07 million copies over both versions.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the latest Pokémon game to release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, doing so on November 18, 2022.
