Play It Cool, Guys Shares Trailer Before Returning in January

play it cool, guys

The second cours of the anime Play It Cool, Guys is all set to come out on January 2, and a trailer for it has dropped. In it you can hear the new cours’ opening theme song “Warau na!” (Translated as “Don’t Laugh!”) being performed by syudou.

You don’t hear it in the trailer, but the new ending theme song is called “Taisetsu” (translated as “Precious”) and performed by Chiaki Kobayashi, Kouki Uchiyama, Yuichiro Umehara, and Shōya Chiba, all of whom are main actors in the anime.

Play It Cool, Guys is being made at Studio Pierrot, with Chiaki Kon helming the project as the director. Kon is known for also working on Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal: Season III, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal, Junjo Romantica, and The Way of the Househusband. The person in charge of overseeing the series scripts is Makoto Uezu of Assassination Classroom. The music is being composed by Masato Nakayama of We Never Learn.

The first cours of the anime debuted on October 10.

The series is based on a manga by Kokone Nata (known as Cool Doji Danshi in Japan) and is published in English by Yen Press. Yen Press gave this description for its plot:

Enter: a bunch of cool guys who look like they got that unapproachable swag. But let’s be real—that’s not the true them. They’re just a bunch of dorks who’ve got the act down pat. So sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy watching a bunch of goofy guys try to look cool all day every day. Play It Cool, Guys is a fun collection of stories featuring guys that are equal parts cool and equal parts adorably awkward.

The manga debuted in 2019 and new chapters are still being released. It was on the female readership list for the guide Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (translated as This Manga Is Amazing!) in 2020.
