As the two-member unit YOASOBI’s 19th digital single, “Idol” was released on April 12 right after the anime’s 90-minute first episode aired in Japan. The song was inspired by the spin-off novel “45510,” written for YOASOBI by the Oshi no Ko manga’s original story writer Aka Akasaka and published on Weekly Young Jump’s special website.

The music video was posted simultaneously on YouTube and reached 1.25 million views in only 12 hours. YOASOBI’s official Twitter reported two days ago the music video gained 15 million views, and the song was streamed over 10 million times on global digital music services.

According to Oricon’s latest report, “Idol” was streamed 10,032,800 times and ranked No.1 in its latest weekly streaming ranking. It became the unit’s third song to reach No.1 in the ranking, following “Yoru ni Kakeru” (June 2020) and “Kaibutsu” (May 2021). The song also made its second-place debut in the weekly digital single ranking, behind only MAN WITH A MISSION’s “Kizuna no Kiseki.”
