Official Kiki’s Delivery Service Cookbook Coming Out in Japan

Studio Ghibli is known for making movies that have tasty-looking food, and Kiki’s Delivery Service, which shows plenty of baked goods, is getting its own cookbook in Japan called Ghibli’s Dining Table Children’s Cooking Picture Book — Kiki’s Delivery Service. It won’t be out until March, but in the meantime it’s shared some of its recipes.

There’s a mix of recipes that are taken directly from foods you see in the film, as well as recipes that are simply inspired by themes in the movie. In terms of stuff from the movie, the book will teach you how to make Gütiokipänjä’s mountain shaped bread and round buns, Cookies bought by Tombo, Roasted herring and pumpkin pie, Osono’s milk soup, Kiki’s special browned pancake, and Special chocolate cake made by Madame.

As for the recipes inspired by the film, these include Magic berry soda, Witch’s ribbon snack, Black cat lollipop cakes, Open sandwich in the attic, and Tombo’s striped jelly.

If you’re interested (and keep in mind the book is written in Japanese) it is available for pre-order on Amazon Japan.

GKIDS gave this description for the Kiki’s Delivery Service movie:

Celebrate this beloved coming-of-age story from the legendary Studio Ghibli, creators of Spirited Away, and Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki, about a resourceful young witch who uses her broom to create a delivery service, only to lose her gift of flight in a moment of self-doubt.

It is a tradition for all young witches to leave their families on the night of a full moon and fly off into the wide world to learn their craft. When that night comes for Kiki, she embarks on her new journey with her sarcastic black cat, Jiji, landing the next morning in a seaside village, where her unique skills make her an instant sensation. Don’t miss this delightfully imaginative and timeless story of a young girl finding her way in the world, featuring the voices of Kirsten Dunst, Janeane Garofalo, Phil Hartman, and Debbie Reynolds.
