Nintendo Teases Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sets Time for World Premiere Trailer

Nintendo promised we’d be getting a look at the Super Mario Bros. CG-animated movie—which has the company teaming up with Illumination—this week, and now we know exactly when to expect it. Nintendo shared a teaser visual and announced plans for a Nintendo Direct presentation, which will reveal the world premiere trailer on October 6 at 1:05pm Pacific Time.

This lines everything up nicely with the premiere panel at this weekend’s New York Comic Con.

As previously announced, the cast includes Chris Pratt (Starlord) as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queens Gambit) as Peach, Charlie Day (The Lego Movie 2) as Luigi, Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda) as Bowser, Seth Rogen (Monsters vs. Aliens) as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key (Hotel Transylvania 2) as Toad, Fred Armisen (The Smurfs) as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson (Teen Titans Go!) as Kamek, and finally Sebastian Maniscalco (The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature) as Spike. The original voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, will somehow be involved in the film in “surprise cameos.” 

 

The Lego Movie 2 scribe Matthew Fogel is writing, with Teen Titan’s Go! To the Movies‘ Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic co-directing the animated movie, and Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri at Illumination producing for a Universal Pictures distribution.

 

The most recent release date for Super Mario Bros. has it premiering April 7 in North America and April 28 in Japan.
