NieR: Automata Game Hits Another Milestone of 7.5 Million Copies Shipped

The official English and Japanese Twitter accounts for the NieR: Automata franchise have announced that the action-RPG developed by Platinum Games in close collaboration with Square-Enix has hit another major milestone with 7.5 million copies shipped and sold across physical and digital formats since the game was first released in February 2017 on PlayStation 4.

Since those heady days, the game has managed to become a cult hit that has inspired everything from officially sanctioned cosplay patterns of its characters, to soundtracks, novels and even concerts. In between, the game has also managed ports to platforms such as Microsoft’s Xbox and Steam on PC. The latest port for Nintendo Switch is the most recently released version of the game which was launched last October to great fanfare, years after its initial release.

 

 

 

 

Crunchyroll is also streaming the anime adaptation, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a and describes it:

 

The distant future, 5012. The sudden aerial invasion of Earth by and their creations led mankind to the brink of extinction. The surviving number of humans who took refuge on the moon to organize a counterattack using soldiers to recapture Earth. However, the war reaches a stalemate as the continue to multiply infinitely. In turn, humanity deploys a new unit of android soldiers as an ultimate weapon: YoRHa.
