New Poll Reveals Fans’ Favorite Doraemon Movie

With all the Doraemon movies out there, is it even possible to pick a favorite? One poll set out to do just that!

In honor of the premiere of Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia, the latest film in the long-running family franchise, news and review site Anime! Anime! polled fans to find out which of the movies so far ranks highest. 1,033 people weighed in, with a male/female ratio of 55% to 45%. Responder age skewed younger (about 40% in their teens or younger and 20% in their 20s).

Coming in third was 2004’s Doraemon: Nobita in the Wan-Nyan Spacetime Odyssey. Based on the final volume of the Doraemon Long Stories manga series, this film marked the 25th anniversary of the 1979 TV anime and was the final film to be feature the original voice cast. In the film, Nobita and his friends accidentally create a society of super-evolved dogs and cats, some of whom wish to take revenge against humans who abandon unwanted animals.

Coming in second is 2011’s Doraemon: Nobita and the New Steel Troops: ~Winged Angels~. Also adapted from Doraemon Long Stories, this film is also a remake of 1986’s Doraemon: Nobita and the Steel Troops. This was the first-ever Doraemon film to be released in 3D, and sees Nobita taking control of a super-destructive giant robot named Zanda Claus.

Taking the top spot in the poll is 2013’s Doraemon: Nobita’s Secret Gadget Museum. This time-travel mystery equips Nobita with Sherlock Holmes-themed gadgets as he and his friends chase down Kaito DX, a gadget thief from the 22nd century. Fans cited the many gadgets on display throughout the film as a major reason for their vote, as well as a certain detail about Doraemon’s iconic bell that really hit them in the heart.
