My Neighbor Totoro West End Production Picks Up Five WOS Awards, Including Best Direction
Following its theatrical run from October 8, 2022 to January 21, 2023, the West End production adapting Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbor Totoro anime film boosted its critical and popular acclaim even further by picking up five WhatsOnStage (WOS) Awards, which boasts itself as the only major theater awards nominated and voted for by the public since its inception in 2001.
My Neighbor Totoro won the following awards out of 24 categories:
- Best Direction – Phelim McDermott
- Best Musical Direction/Supervision – Bruce O’Neil, Matt Smith
- Best Lighting Design – Jessica Hung Han Yun
- Best Set Design – Tom Pye, Basil Twist
- Best Sound Design – Tony Gayle
The production was also nominated for the following:
- Best Performer in a Play – Mei Mac
- Best Video Design – Finn Ross, Andrea Scott
- Best Graphic Design – Toshio Suzuki, Dewynters
- Best New Play
