Maria Kawamura & Nozomu Sasaki Comment on GOTHICMADE Anime Film’s Revival Screening

KADOKAWA will hold a 10th anniversary revival screening of the 2012 anime film GOTHICMAD, directed and written by Mamoru Nagano (The Five Star Stories), at 52 theaters across Japan from November 1, 2022, for a limited time of ten days.

The 70-minute film, produced by Automatic Flowers Studio and Kadokawa Shoten, was originally released in Japan on November 1, 2012, and has never been released in the form of a video package or streamed due to the original author’s wishes. The film’s two main voice cast – Maria Kawamura (Berin) and Nozomu Sasaki (Toriharon) – have posted their comments on the long-awaited revival screening.

Comment from Maria Kawamura:

If you are seeing this film for the first time, I suggest that you watch it with an open mind, without even reading the cover of the pamphlet. Of course there are robots in the film, but it is a boy-meets-girl road movie, so I hope you enjoy it. If you watch the ending without getting up from your seat until the theater lights come on, I think you will understand the truth of this film… Please have a nice trip!

Comment from Nozomu Sasaki:

As everyone has their own point of view, I am interested in how you feel about the dialogue scenes between Berin and Toriharon from different perspectives such as sound, movement, mechanics, road movie, boy meets girl, and so on. Anyway, it’s the kind of film that you can stay sit in your seat mindlessly in a blissful state for 70 minutes, and that makes you feel that you could stay in this world forever.

Adding 16 new pages, the theater pamphlet released at the time of the 2012 release of the film will be sold as the 2022 edition. The new edition includes the feature articles about the film from KADOKAWA’s monthly anime magazine Newtype, a summary of the relationship between this film and Nagano’s The Five Star Stories manga, and a conversation between Maria Kawamura and Nozomu Sasaki. After being pre-sold at TOHO Cinemas theaters where the film is scheduled to be screened, it will also be available at KADOKAWA’s official online store. The price is 1,650 yen (11.16 USD).
