Magademy Award 2022 Crowns Characters from BLUE GIANT, Tokyo Revengers and More

Digital bookstore BookLive’s Magademy Award, the Japanese manga industry’s first award to honor characters, returned for its second year to highlight the best of 2022 across six categories: Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Jury Special Award and newly added Best Newcomer.

 

Nominees for the four primary categories were decided via online fan voting that took place between December 12 and January 4, which resulted in a narrowed-down selection to be assessed by a panel of professional judges, with the winners being announced today.

 

The nominees and winners (marked with **) for the primary categories are as follows:

 

Best Leading Actor

  • Yoichi Isagi from BLUELOCK
  • Sunraku from Shangri-La Frontier
  • Hoshi-sensei from Onna no Sono no Hoshi
  • **Dai Miyamoto from BLUE GIANT
  • Akito Yamada from Loving Yamada at Lv999!

 

Best Leading Actress

  • Mitsumi Iwakura from Skip and Loafer
  • Marin Kitagawa from My Dress-Up Darling
  • Hitori Goto from BOCCHI THE ROCK!
  • Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries
  • **Inori Yuitsuka from Medalist

 

Best Supporting Actor

  • Haku from Yona of the Dawn
  • Meguru Bachira from BLUELOCK
  • **Chifuyu Matsuno from Tokyo Revengers

 

Best Supporting Actress

  • **Ai Haibara from Case Closed
  • Fern from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
  • Raika from Don’t Call it Mystery

As for the additional categories, Rudo from Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga scored the first-ever Best Newcomer award and Chiikawa from the self-titled comedy series by Nagano took home the Jury Special Award.

Last year’s winners included Do Not Say Mystery‘s Totonou Kunou for Best Leading Actor, Yona of the Dawn‘s Yona for Best Leading Actress, Tokyo Revenger‘s Manjiro Sano for Best Supporting Actor and Chihayafuru‘s Shinobu Wakamiya for Best Supporting Actress. The Jury Special Award was given to the immortal Guts from Kentaro Miura’s Berserk.
