Lum Gets a Charge Out of Coffee in Urusei Yatsura x Georgia Collab

A promotional image from the Urusei Yatsura x Georgia Coffee collaboration campaign featuring a frizzle-haired salaryman drinking a bottle of Georgia Coffee while Lum (in animated form) stands behind him. The salaryman's hair is smoking and standing on end as if he'd just received a comical electric shock.

In a somewhat shocking turn of events, TV anime Urusei Yatsura has teamed up with Coca-Cola Japan’s Georgia Coffee brand for a collaboration campaign that includes a 15 second TV spot featuring voice actor Sumire Uesaka reprising her role as the invading alien princess from the romantic comedy series.

In addition to the TV spot (below), the collaboration also includes an official web page and a rewards campaign where customers can accumulate points by purchasing Georgia Coffee products and trade them in for a chance to win original Urusei Yatsura character goods through lottery-style drawings.

Created by Rumiko Takahashi, the original Urusei Yatsura manga ran from 1978 – 1987 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine, and an English language version is also available from Viz Media. The 2020 TV anime adaptation is directed by Hideya Takahashi and Yasuhiro Kimura and features animation production by David Production. HIDIVE streams Urusei Yatsura in the United States, and describes the story of the series as follows:

Chosen as humanity’s representative in a duel against invading aliens, the womanizing Ataru faces off against the alien princess Lum — and the conflict follows him home when Lum invades both planet Earth AND the reluctant Ataru’s love life!
