Knuckles

Before Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was even out in theaters, a third live-action film was confirmed along with a brand new live-action series, which is a spinoff following Knuckles. With the series set to premiere this year, Deadline has followed up with a report revealing more cast members for the appropriately titled Knuckles series.

Idris Elba was previously announced as reprising his role as the title character, and some of the actors joining him include Adam Pally, who will return as Walt Whipple alongside guest stars Rory McCann and the returning Tika Sumpter. Among the other cast members are Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi and Ellie Taylor.

The Knuckles series—which is set between the events of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 films—follows everyone’s favorite rough-and-tumble Echidna through a “hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery,” as Deadline notes, which has him taking Wade on as his protégé and teaching him how to be a true Echidna warrior.

The creative team from the films are back for the series, including director Jeff Fowler, who is at the helm for the pilot episode. Sonic 2 writer John Whittington is head writer and also wrote the pilot, and others involved in scripting the series include Brian Schacter and James Madejski.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently slated for a December 20, 2024 premiere.
