Gamera’s first appearance was in the tokusatsu film Daikaiju Gamera (Gamera, the Giant Monster) released by Daiei (now KADOKAWA) in 1965. Gamera is a friend of children and justice who protects people from dangers on earth, and has a unique personality with a humorous design modeled after a turtle and the ability to fly. It gained popularity for its unique style, such as its disk-shaped rotating flight, and for its bravery in confronting any formidable foe.

Daiei released a total of eight films as the Showa Gamera series, until Uchu Kaiju Gamera (Gamera: Super Monster) in 1980. Even after that, the trilogy reboot Heisei Gamera series directed by Shusuke Kaneko were released from 1995 to 1999, and Chiisaki Yusha-tachi Gamera (Gamera the Brave) directed by Ryuta Tasaki followed in 2006.

Message from Shusuke Kaneko:

When I proposed my own concept for Gamera in the Reiwa era, KADOKAWA was already working on a new project. The content seemed to make sense to me, so I have high expectations for this project as well. So, as a baseball commentator with experience as a Gamera team manager, I will continue to support it until it wins the championship and I take the plate again.

In addition, a figure will be exhibited at “TAMASHII NATION2022” from November 18 to 20. On the day of the event, an extra newspaper featuring the appearance of Gamera will be distributed at the venue.
