Kaina of the Great Snow Sea Original Soundtrack Launches

Kaina of the Great Snow Sea

Kaina of the Great Snow Sea is already proving itself to be a special series, and one of the key components is its soundtrack. That soundtrack is now available from Milan Records, featuring the work of acclaimed composers Hiroyuki Sawano, KOHTA YAMAMOTO and Misaki Umase.

Among the many tracks is the series’ main theme, “KAINA” by Hiroyuki Sawano. There are also three additional variations of the theme, as well as plenty of incredible instrumental music to round out the 44-track collection.

Hiroyuki Sawano commented on the main theme:

“I feel honored to be in charge of the main theme for this magnificent work. In the many fantasy works I have seen, I have often been drawn into the world and the story by the music. That is why I worked alongside KOHTA YAMAMOTO and Misaki Umase to create the music of Kaina, in the hopes that listeners would feel the same way. We hope you enjoy the music alongside the beautiful story.”

KOHTA YAMAMOTO said the following:

“It was a very fun and fulfilling time to create music while imagining the magnificent world of Kaina of the Great Snow Sea. I hope you will enjoy this soundtrack along with the series’ beautiful visuals.”

Misaki Umase added:

“I am so happy to have worked with Hiroyuki Sawano and KOHTA YAMAMOTO on this music. The fantastic world of The Snow Sea and Tenmaku was expressed using multiple recordings of a chorus and various ethnic instruments. We hope you enjoy the music as well as the series.”

Crunchyroll streams the Kaina of the Great Snow Sea anime as part of its Winter 2023 lineup, describing the original work written by Knights of Sidonia and BLAME! creator Tsutomu Nihei as such:

Humanity’s remnants struggle to survive above the planet atop giant orbital spire trees, safe from the danger below. Rendered unlivable, the Great Snow Sea has turned the world into a no man’s land. While out hunting, young Kaina stumbles upon an unconscious girl who’s floated up from the surface. The discovery of this trespasser brings new hope for mankind’s future—and unimaginable danger!
