Kaiju No. 8 TV Anime Unveils Character Design for Mina Ashiro

 

Mina Ashiro joins the brawl!

 

The ace monster fighter and childhood friend of protagonist Kafka Hibino is the latest to get her anime art shared in anticipation of Kaiju No. 8. At the age of 27, Mina has subjugated hundreds of kaiju, and is admired both by her peers and civilians who see her in action. She and Kafka also share a dream—though while she’s busy mopping up monsters, he’s mopping up their entrails.

Production I.G provides animation production for Kaiju No. 8, while Studio Khara provides monster designs and artworks. Additional details about the series, such as other key staff and the main cast, have not yet been revealed. Kaiju No. 8 will broadcast in Japan in 2024.

 

The original Kaiju No. 8 manga is serialized in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ digital manga magazine, and an English language version is also available from Viz Media, who describe the story of the first volume as follows:

 

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
