JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 Anime Film’s Japan Blu-ray and DVD Makes a Record-Breaking No. 1 Debut on Weekly Sales Charts

The Blu-ray and DVD of the popular JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 anime film was released in Japan over the last week, bringing the story of Yuta and Rika to homes across the country. Japanese sales tracking site Oricon reported today that the film has broken the sales record for its first week in 2022 in all of its categories, outselling the likes of My Hero Academia and GIRLS und PANZER.

Starting with the DVD, the regular edition of JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 sold 30,000 copies in its first week, with the deluxe edition selling 28,000 copies. Both releases came in number one and two on the overall Weekly DVD Ranking respectively as well as the anime DVD charts. It also overtakes the My Hero Academia World Heroes’ Mission DVD Plus Ultra Edition as the highest-selling anime DVD of 2022 in its first week of release.

 

Over on the Blu-ray charts, the deluxe edition of JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 sold 65,000 copies over its first week of release while the regular edition of the film sold 27,000 copies. Both ranked one and two on the overall Weekly Blu-ray Rankings respectively. The deluxe edition has the honor of overtaking GIRLS und PANZER Das Finale Episode 3 (Special Edition) in first week sales, which was 41,000 copies.

The JUJUTSU KAISEN anime will be returning in 2023 after the series’ prequel film JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 brought in over 24.25 billion yen (around US$180 million) around the world. Crunchyroll is streaming both the first season of the MAPPA-produced anime alongside the anime film. Crunchyroll describes the series as such:

 

Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.
