Japanese Fans Really, Really Want These Video Games Made into Anime

Nintendo is banking on making a lot of money from the 2023 Hollywood film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Hollywood already has a long list of movies based on video games. But what about video games made into anime? This is something that also sometimes happens, and a survey in Japan asked fans which console video game they want made into anime. And while their choices did include international games, quite a few came from their home country of Japan.

The survey, put on by the Japanese site Anime Anime, took in the opinions of 1,609 people. We have a few details on who made up the participants, including the fact that approximately 60% of those surveyed were women, 55% of those surveyed were 19 or younger, and one fourth of people surveyed were in their 20s.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the top ten video games chosen.

In 10th place is the 2021 Nintendo game Buddy Mission Bond.

In 9th place is the otome game Jack Jeanne.

8th place went to the Swedish game Minecraft.

7th place was Kingdom Hearts, made by Square Enix and Disney.

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing came in 6th.

Getting into the top five, 5th place goes to Nintendo’s Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Then there is 2015’s Undertale, created by an American indie developer.

In 3rd place is Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You knew something from Zelda had to show up in this list!

In 2nd place is Nintendo’s Xenoblade Chronicles.

Which leaves us with the top pick. Want to make any last-minute guesses before it’s revealed?

The Japanese fans surveyed said the video game they most want to see turned into an anime is . . . Nintendo’s Splatoon.

What do you think of these results?
