Japanese Composer Masa Takumi Wins Best Global Music Album Grammy

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards were held earlier today in Los Angeles, marking one of the biggest events on the music industry calendar for the year but for Japanese musician Masa Takumi, whose real name is Masanori Takumi, it was the biggest night of his life as his latest album “Sakura” won a grammy for Best Global Music album.

 

Takumi is a seasoned composer, having created songs for many different disciplines including anime. His anime work includes Claymore, Level E, Amagi Brilliant Park, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and many more. He has also written songs for J-pop bands DA PUMP, JAM Project, ℃-ute, EXILE and more.

His Grammy award-winning album “Sakura” combines his experience with traditional Asian instruments which features him playing the shamisen, a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument, and the piano. Takumi said he was “speechless” on stage accepting the award in Los Angeles.
