Japan Box Office: Delicious Party Pretty Cure Film Makes Its 3rd Place Debut
Eiga Delicious Party Pretty Cure: Yumemiru Okosama Lunch! (Delicious Party Pretty Cure the Movie: Dreamy Children’s Lunch!), the 31st feature film in Toei Animation’s long-running magical girl anime franchise, was released in 270 theaters across Japan on September 23, then earned a very good 186 million yen (1.29 million USD) on 154,000 admissions on its first Saturday and Sunday to make its third place debut.
The Friday on which the film was released was Autumnal Equinox Day, Japan’s second national holiday of September, and on that one day alone, the film surpassed the first Saturday and Sunday box-office gross (170 million yen) of the franchise’s previous 30th film Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure the Movie: The Snow Princess and the Miraculous Ring! in October 2021. The film’s total gross for the three days from Friday through Sunday was 367 million yen (2.54 million USD) on 308,000 admissions, which was about 200 percent of that of Tropical-Rouge!.
The film also ranked fourth in Filmarks’ first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.86/5.0 based on 128 reviews.

Meanwhile, One Piece Film Red, produced by the same Toei Animation, earned 358 million yen (2.48 million USD) on 259,000 admissions in its eight weekends to stay on the No.1 spot for eight consecutive weekends. The 15th One Piece anime feature film’s cumulative total domestic gross in Japan has almost reached 15.7 billion yen (108.7 million USD) on 11.26 million admissions to become the 11th top-grossing film released in Japan, surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar (15.6 billion yen).
Uta no Prince-sama The Movie: Maji LOVE ST☆RISH TOURS, the second concert film from the Uta no Prince-sama anime franchise, ranked eighth in its fourth weekends.
While not ranking in the overall top 10, the advance screening of the first two episodes of the fall 2022 TV anime Blue Lock ranked third in Kogyo Tsushinsha’s mini-theater weekend box office ranking. The special edition has been screened in select 11 theaters in Japan for a limited time of two weeks from September 23 to October 6.
