INTERVIEW: VTuber Regis Altare Wants to Spread Joy Through VTubing

Every team has its leader, and HOLOSTARS English -TEMPUS- has Regis Altare. The founder of the adventurer’s guild, Altare’s gentle and easygoing earnestness make his streams some of the coziest you can find on all of YouTube. We had the pleasure of interviewing him about how it felt to debut, the joy of VTubing, and whether or not he would pursue a friendship with The Legend of Zelda‘s Tingle. Check it out below!

Hello! For any of our audience who don’t know you, could you please introduce yourself?
Regis Altare: hello! my name is Regis Altare of HOLOSTARS English, Adventurer and Leader of the Tempus Guild! i needed to take a break from all the paperwork that comes with the guild, so i stream in my free time!
What is a day in your life like? How do you spend your time?
Altare: well … i tend to stay up PRETTY late! i’ve been sleeping in a lot but i like hanging out with my boys! we’re all really close with each other and like gaming together! but late at night, i like going for walks while listening to music and maybe break out into a dance pose or two xD
What were you doing when you got the news that you passed your audition? How did it feel?
Altare: i was sleeping! well, i woke up ready to go on a quest when i got the acceptance! it didn’t feel real when i got it, so when we first started at HOLOSTARS English i was still doubting reality haha!
It seems that your debut stream has been really well received! How did it feel to finally meet your audience?
Altare: i was SUPER nervous to meet everyone. i’ve never been in front of that big of a crowd! we’ve been met with an immense amount of kindness and acceptance, so now i feel more motivated to make everyone smile and laugh!
Your grasp of Japanese and Korean are both really impressive! Do you have any advice for people who are just starting out learning a different language?
Altare: aww i’m not great at either, i’m still a beginner at both! but if i had some advice … the more you use it and step outside your comfort zone, the more your comfort zone expands! there’s no better way to improve than by doing, so practice whenever you can!
As a fan of the Legend of Zelda series, would you ever pursue a friendship with Tingle?
Altare: friendship? yes.
more than that? yesn’t.
Your cover of ONE OK ROCK’s “Heartache” was so beautiful! If you ever release your own music, what style or genre would you want to make it in?
Altare: aww thanks! it was my first cover so i’m glad you enjoyed it! my voice fits slower and softer songs so i’d like to release R&B, ballads, and sad boy music (lol) in general! songs that make you feel at ease and make you vibe~
VTubers have become extremely popular in the last few years. What about the medium do you think speaks to people’s hearts so deeply?
Altare: what speaks to so many people about VTubing is the ability to express yourself in such a unique and freeing way. VTubing in general has given so many people the opportunity to portray themselves on their own accord; you can TRULY be yourself!
If you could ensure your viewers take one feeling or message from your streams, what would it be?
Altare: the feeling of happiness! i stream so that people can smile and laugh. if i was able to make someone laugh at one of my jokes or smile because they enjoy my streams, then i’ll be happy too!
Do you have anything else you would like to say to your fans and fans of hololive production in general?
Altare: thank you so much for the warm welcome! in this current world, there’s so much negativity and not many places to escape to. if you ever need a place to relax and have fun, come hang out with us! it’s always a good time!
