INTERVIEW: Meet QUEEN BEE, the Rock Band Behind Chainsaw Man’s Episode 11 Ending Theme!

Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man is a remarkable anime for many reasons, but one of the many things that sets it apart is the fact that each of its 12 episodes feature a different ending song and animation. Thanks to our friends at SONY Music, we had the opportunity to interview Avu-chan, the lead singer of band QUEEN BEE who contributed the song “VIOLENCE” to episode 11 of Chainsaw Man about their music style and what it was like to be a part of one of the most exciting anime projects in recent history!

Before reading the interview, be sure to check out QUEEN BEE’s “VIOLENCE” on streaming platforms here!

QUEEN BEE x “VIOLENCE” US INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Crunchyroll: Could you please introduce yourselves and the band to our readers?

Avu-chan: Hello to everyone reading this article on Crunchyroll! QUEEN BEE is an incredibly cool band and I am the coolest vocalist of that very cool band. If you are reading this article, you will absolutely love QUEEN BEE.

How did you all meet each other and how was Queen Bee formed?

Avu-chan: I had no musical background as a young child, and grew up in a difficult environment. I met the members of my band in that environment in order to ferociously carve out a life for myself. That mindset has remained unchanged to this day.

Your band has a really unique energy and sound! How would you describe your musical style?

Avu-chan: I think the energy of QUEEN BEE comes from thoroughly doing what I want to do. I feel that by being “only concerned about what I want to be concerned about” on a regular basis keeps that energy continuing.

What did you all think of Chainsaw Man before learning you would contribute a song to it? Are any of you fans of the manga?

Avu-chan: I was introduced to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s work several years ago by Sui Ishida, the author of Tokyo Ghoul. I am a fan of the sense of speed in this manga.

How did you all feel when you learned that your music would be featured in the anime?

Avu-chan: I think I started working on the song before I was knew and was happy about being featured in the anime. I was so determined and enthusiastic to make it unbelievably cool!

Chainsaw Man

How do you think the song “VIOLENCE” connects to the style and themes of Chainsaw Man?

Avu-chan: I believe that “VIOLENCE” is something that is not possible without the presence of others or another person. The same goes for battles and love. I would be happy if that feeling of impatience with another person in the moment comes through with the song.

Opening and Ending songs are central to the experience of watching an anime. What do you think makes for a good ending theme? Is it different than what makes a good opening theme?

Avu-chan: In many cases where we are making music for anime, I try to convey my respect through lyrics and tone. However, the fact that we were invited to be a part of that work, means that we feel it is important to express the deepest depths of the work. A good opening or ending theme song should be able to depict the world of the work without mercy and with a sense of respect.

What do you hope listeners get out of hearing your song in Chainsaw Man?

Avu-chan: I want you to feel your blood pounding and to liven up!

Do you have any last messages for your fans across the world?

Avu-chan: We would like to do shows in each of your countries. When that happens, let’s sing and dance as much as we can and make it a great night. See you soon!
