The crowdfunding campaign site for the forthcoming live-action film project inspired by Getter Robo, a classic robot manga series created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa in the mid-1970s, confirmed yesterday that Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt manga author Yasuo Ohtagaki has joined its screenplay writer team, alongside producer/director Junya Okabe (Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy The Movie, Brave Storm) and Yoshiaki Tabata (Ninja Slayer).

Message from Yasuo Ohtagaki:

With a direct request from director Okabe, I will participate in the live-action version of “Getter Robo” as a screenplay writer. As one of the few junior manga artists to inherit the robot manga lineage, I would be happy to support the reboot of Getter Robo in the modern age. I hope you will join me in witnessing the birth of a new tokusatsu robot film that will enthuse not only Japan but the world.

The film has been in development for a release in the spring of 2025, as the series’ 50th anniversary project. Kickstarter for foreign countries has also launched on April 12.
