Tomo-chan Is a Girl!

Mother’s Day is for celebrating all moms — and that includes anime moms! You might remember a few years ago when we shared some of our favorite moms like Inko Midoriya and Sakura Uchiha. We’re back again with more magnificent mamas just in time for the sweetest of holidays.

Give the mother figure in your life a call and then come back here to read all about the anime moms we wish we knew in real life. We’d never forget to send them a card for Mother’s Day!

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten – Shihoko Fujimiya

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten

Mom of: Amane

Playful, unflappable and supportive? Peak mom goals. In The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, high school student Amane Fujimiya lives alone in an apartment paid for by his parents. He might be far away from them, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t close. His good-natured mother Shihoko worries about him and drops by unannounced to check on him from time to time. Nothing fazes her. Not even Amane being sullen, rude or just plain teenager-y. She simply responds to all his moods with a sweet smile.

When she meets his neighbor and classmate Mahiru, Amane’s mom mistakes her for his girlfriend. Despite her son’s protests, Shihoko has just one thing to say to him: “As your mother, I’ll support anyone you choose.” One day Amane will realize how lucky he is to have her as his mom.

BOCCHI THE ROCK! – Michiyo Gotoh

Bocchi the Rock!

Mom of: Bocchi

In BOCCHI THE ROCK!, introvert Hitori Gotoh worries about a lot of things. Thanks to the enduring support of her family and friends, Hitori — AKA Bocchi — is working through her intense social anxiety and branching out into new experiences. Her dream of playing guitar alongside her friends in a popular rock band is finally within reach.

Her mom always has an understanding smile for her teenager. She’s observant, involved and perpetually patient. Even if she can’t quite believe that Bocchi has friends coming over for the first time, Michiyo is ready for them with snacks and easy conversation. (Bocchi thinks her family might get along a little too well with her friends.) Bocchi’s mom accepts her daughter wholeheartedly, never yelling or forcing the shy teen to push herself too far outside her comfort zone.

If Bocchi is playing with the band, I guarantee her mom is in the audience cheering for her.

Ranking of Kings – Shiina

Ranking of Kings

Mom of: Bojji

Ranking of Kings’ Shiina is a force to be reckoned with. A giantess warrior herself, Bojji’s mom is more than a match for his fearsome father, Bosse. Shiina is as fierce of a mom as she is a fighter, but she also shows her small baby a tenderness and love that Bojji will never forget. Her time with the prince is far too short, but she uses it to shower him with affection and protection.

Queen Shiina’s loving influence on young prince Bojji is apparent in every episode of the highly acclaimed series. Her forgiveness from beyond the grave is a turning point for Miranjo and one last important lesson for Bojji.

SPY x FAMILY – Yor Forger

SPY x FAMILY

Mom of: Anya

Don’t cross Anya’s mom! SPY x FAMILY’s Yor Forger is the sweetest assassin you’ll ever meet. But if you do actually meet her while she’s on a mission… you’re in serious trouble. Yor hides her secret life as the Thorn Princess from her husband Loid Forger, their adopted daughter Anya and her younger brother Yuri Briar, but she uses her considerable skills and strength in support of all of them.

A surrogate mom to Yuri as the two grew up without their parents, Yor learned to be passionately protective of her family. Whether she’s teaching Anya to throw a dodgeball with deadly precision or defending her marriage with an impromptu tennis match against a rival — you’ll just have to watch the series to see what that was all about — Yor gives being a mom her all.

Tomo-chan Is a Girl! – Akemi Aizawa

Tomo-chan Is a Girl!

Mom of: Tomo

Imagine your mom is so cool your dad still blushes when they make eye contact. Of course we’re talking about Akemi, Tomo’s fiery mom in Tomo-chan Is a Girl! One glance and you can tell where Tomo gets her looks (including that adorable little fang tooth) and her outgoing personality from.

Akemi is easygoing, unless you’re too formal with her — then you get to see the same high-spirited fury Tomo shares! The entire Aizawa family might be hot-headed and prone to punching, but their zeal comes from a place of affection. But Akemi is never too fired up to notice the sparks flying between Tomo and Junichiro. Her knowing smile speaks volumes, even if the two teens haven’t figured it out yet.
