FEATURE: Mob Psycho 100 Love Confession Advice, Ranked

Mob Psycho III

Poor Mob. After finding out that his crush is transferring he has to accelerate his plan to finally confess his feelings to her. On top of that, it’s his first confession. What’s he going to do in this time of crisis?! Luckily over the course of Mob Psycho 100 he’s accumulated a really good support system that’ll give him advice in times of need. In season three Mob gets quite a few suggestions over the course of episode nine, so let’s see which pieces of advice are genuinely good as well as those that he probably should not pursue when it comes to confessing his feelings for Tsubomi.

The Telepathy Club/Takenaka

Advice: “You should definitely change up your hairstyle!”

More advice: “Sorry, we can’t really offer advice so we’ll just support you from afar.”

Grade: D+

The Telepathy Club sure tried. Tome’s advice to change hairstyles is a strange one since Mob has an iconic hairstyle. He also wouldn’t want to change things up so drastically just for a confession.

The rest of the club is honest about how they can’t really help, but they at least show that they’ve got Mob’s back no matter what. Takenaka shows up to tease Mob a little by saying that maybe he’ll ask Tsubomi out, but Mob just brushes it off — he probably doesn’t think that Takenaka’s actually going to do it.

Not the best showing of advice here, but having support is always good.

Ritsu

Advice: “Don’t lose heart too much, okay?”

Grade: C

Ritsu doesn’t want Mob to get hurt because he believes he has information about Tsubomi having feelings for someone else. You’d expect more brotherly advice in that kind of situation, but Ritsu gives Mob some simple words of encouragement to soften any potentially devastating blow that he could receive.

We learn a couple of episodes later that there’s a bit of lingering tension between the brothers that has yet to be resolved, especially on Ritsu’s side, which might have made it harder for him to give better advice to Mob.

The Body Improvement Club

Advice: “You’re the shadow leader at Salt Middle! Grow a pair! Show her what White T Poison’s made of!”

More advice: “You’re developing some excellent muscles there! The experience you’re looking for has accumulated in those! We’re seeing the fruits of your labor! I’m sure the person you have in mind will tell you that your muscles are worthy!”

The Body Improvement Club’s advice boils down to “have confidence.” This in and of itself is good advice for Mob, who at times has lacked confidence in himself. The boys here don’t necessarily have the level of experience in relationships that Mob would need for what he’s trying to do, but they do their best to help boost his spirits and try to get him moving forward in a way where he won’t have any regrets.

Sometimes, you just need to hear that people believe in you to start to believe in yourself.

Hanazawa

Advice: “Go on. Relax those shoulders. Smile and stand proud. You need to be more confident! It’s not like you’re doing anything bad.”

More advice: “I’m usually the one getting asked out, but when I get letters or homemade cookies, it does make me pretty happy. I figured that might be an option. Actually, in your case, maybe you can get her some flowers, even if it’s a bit cliché. I’m sure it couldn’t hurt.”

Hanazawa is perhaps the most experienced person Mob knows when it comes to confessions given how many he’s received. Despite the fact that he wants to buy him clothes again — which Mob refutes because he remembers the monkey shirt — he’s able to dish out some solid advice and give Mob a helpful hint when it comes to giving gifts during a confession.

Not only does it make him stand out from the crowd, but when it comes to Mob it would certainly feel genuine because of who he is.

Reigen/Serizawa

Advice: “If your feelings for her don’t change, despite what anyone says, that means your feelings are true, right?”

More advice: “First, you wanna be fresh and clean. Then, remember to be sincere and faithful. And don’t forget to be fashionable and be a good listener. Also, make sure to smile and don’t be glum. And… Oh, right. Setting the mood to excite her is also important. Just be yourself. Show her your true self.”

Serizawa admits that he really doesn’t have the experience in this field that Mob would need, but he’s still able to give some nice words of encouragement.

The elephant in the room when it comes to Reigen’s advice is that he essentially cheats and looks up advice online. Despite that, I wouldn’t say that means he was in the wrong or gave him bad advice. Quite frankly, it’s good and helpful, especially for someone like Mob.

Later on, Reigen tells Serizawa that Mob should do the exact opposite of what he’d do in this situation because of who Mob is, which is entirely true. Reigen absolutely tries his hardest to not be a scammer when it comes to Mob, so while it might not be the most genuine of advice, it’s certainly heartfelt.

Ichi

Ichi and Mob

Advice: “First, you need to be a gentleman. You should always mind your manners around all of your girl classmates. Also, you need to be considerate. You need to be dependable, lend an ear to her problems, and make her think she can talk about anything. If you can be that accepting, you might just be able to handle Takane-san, as well.”

Ichi saves Mob from going out into that long line filled with a majority of the boys at school who are trying to confess to Tsubomi, preventing him from having his heart immediately broken. She gives some good, genuine advice on how to act in this sort of situation and what Mob should do when in a relationship.

It’s not surprising to see Ichi do this as she’s been able to help Mob out and give him advice in a number of situations – and he’s mostly been good about listening to it. Truly Ichi’s an MVP in this instance by not only stopping Mob from facing some serious heartbreak but by giving him the best advice of the episode.

Mob’s big group of supportive friends has certainly grown over the past three seasons. In such a dire and desperate time of need, he was able to get a variety of advice, well wishes and encouragement from all kinds of people. From the good, the bad and everything in between, there are a lot of people who wanted to help Mob and have his back during this big moment in his young life.

While things certainly take a dramatic turn at the end of the episode, it’s always nice to see what a good support system Mob has been able to obtain.

Which piece of advice from Mob’s friends do you think is the most beneficial in this situation? Let us know in the comments below!
