Demon Slayer -To the Swordsmith Village- Journeys Past 3.5 Billion Yen in Japan

Now that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- has opened internationally, fans across the world can get that taste of the new TV anime season before it premieres on April 9. In Japan, where the feature-length cut opened back on February 3, fans continue to flock to the highest-grossing recap/advance screening in Japanese theatrical history.

 

As of March 5, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- has grossed more than 3.50 billion yen (US$26.30 million) on the back of 2.47 million tickets sold. It continues to be the second highest-grossing theatrical release of 2023 in Japan surpassing the lifetime grosses of many anime films in general.

 

Worldwide, -To the Swordsmith Village- opened wide from Crunchyroll in English-speaking countries with a worldwide total of over US$38 million. In the United States, -To the Swordsmith Village- opened to US$10.1 million, which is higher (based on conversation rates at the time) than Demon Slayer’s 1,158,765,410 yen (US$8.72 million) Japanese opening.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- is a feature-length cut of Episodes 10 and 11 of the Entertainment District Arc along with the extended Episode 1 of the upcoming Swordsmith Village Arc in 4K with remastered audio. The feature starts in Japanese theaters on February 3 with the L.A. premiere on February 18 ahead of full screenings on March 3. It is set to be shown across 95 countries and territories.

 

The Entertainment District Arc was the latest arc to air, starting on Japanese TV on December 5, 2021, and was streamed on Crunchyroll weekly shortly after its TV broadcast. The rest of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime franchise, including the Mugen Train film and arc, is also available to watch on Crunchyroll. 

 

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc is scheduled to begin in April 2023.
