“KICK BACK” was written/composed by Yonezu, and co-arranged by himself and Daiki Tsuneda (King Gnu/millennium parade). As Yonezu’s first anime theme work in five years since “Peace Sign” (My Hero Academia second season first cour opening theme), it was released digitally from SME Records on October 12, 2022, with the CD single following on November 23. Both the digital and CD singles ranked No.1 on Oricon’s weekly single charts.

The music video was directed by Yoshiyuki Okuyama, a photographer and video director who has worked on artist photos for Yonezu and the music video for his 2020 digital single “Kanden.” It begins with Yonezu and Tsuneda going through a series of muscle training exercises, and soon an unexpected twist awaits them. The clip includes many comical and shocking developments, attracting a great deal of attention and numerous parody videos across the web.
