Basketball Manga DEAR BOYS’ Cancelled Stage Play Adaptation Newly Set for June 2023

 

 

Nelke Planning has announced that the cancelled stage play adaptation of Hiroki Yagami’s long-running basketball-themed manga DEAR BOYS is newly set to be performed at Mixalive TOKYO Theater Mixa from June 1 to 18, 2023. It was originally planned to be held in April 2020 but was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

 

The title of the play is “Aggressive Dance Stage ‘DEAR BOYS’.” and passionate battles between high school boys on the basketball teams are depicted through a fusion of theater and dance performance. Imajin Ito (Touken Ranbu stage play choreographer) serves as director on a script by Masafumi Hata (Attack on Titan The Musical). General sales of the 7,800-yen tickest will begion on May 13.

 

The cast members have been completely changed from the 2020 version. Masatoshi Shin (Kumon Hyodo in A3!) is newly cast as the protagonist Kazuhiko Aikawa, in place of Leo Nagatsuma (7ORDER project) in the original. Shin says, “While carefully depicting the important aspects of the original manga, we will work together with the director, Imajin Ito-san, the co-stars, and all the staff to create something that can only be created by us today. Please look forward to the best stage of basketball and dance!”
