Australia Partly Bans How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Omega
How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Omega, the second season of the series, is not winning over the powers that be in Australia. The Australian Classification Board declared that the mature anime has been refused classification. The government website for ratings explains that, “Refused Classification (RC) is a classification category referring to films, computer games and publications that cannot be sold, hired, advertised or legally imported in Australia. RC-classified material contains content that is very high in impact and falls outside generally-accepted community standards.”
How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord, the first season of the anime, had previously gotten a MA 15+ rating, which is described this way:
“MA 15+ rated material contains strong content and is legally restricted to people over the age of 15. It contains elements such as sex scenes and drug use that could have a strong impact on the viewer.
A person may be asked to show proof of their age before purchasing or viewing an MA 15+ film or computer game.”
On the government’s page for How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Omega, there is a section that lists the “Reason for Refused Classification.” However, a reason is not given. Instead, it says, “For further information regarding the reason for this decision, please contact us”.
This may not be good news for fans of the franchise, but the anime is not completely banned. It technically can’t be sold on home video, but there’s a loophole where it still can be streamed in the country.
Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime, and gave this description for it:
“Sakamoto Takuma was so strong in the MMORPG Cross Reverie that his fellow players came to call him the ‘demon lord.’ One day, he gets summoned to another world in his avatar form, and meets two girls who both insist that they’re the one who summoned him. They cast a spell used to enslave summoned beasts on him, but that activates his unique ability, Magic Reflect, and the girls end up being the ones put under the spell!
And thus begins the otherworldly adventure of a demon lord (pretend) who blazes his own trail through overwhelming power.”
