Ashita no Joe Anime Gets 4K Blu-ray Release in Japan

No one knows what tomorrow will bring, except in the case of Ashita no Joe, a classic boxing-themed TV anime that is receiving a 4K remastered Blu-ray release in Japan from Best Field Co., Ltd..

 

The 79-episode TV series will be released across two volumes with the first to be published on July 28, 2023, followed by the second on August 30, 2023. Each volume will feature a special commentary booklet as a pack-in bonus.

 

With the help of his trainer, Danpei Tange, Joe steps between the ropes for a boxing match in a scene from the 1970 - 1971 TV anime, Ashita no Joe.

The original Ashita no Joe manga is written by Asao Takamori and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba. It was serialized from 1968 – 1973 in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. The Ashita no Joe TV anime is directed by Osamu Dezaki and features animation production by Mushi Production. It originally broadcast on Fuji TV from April of 1970 – September of 1971. The story of the series follows Joe Yabuki, a hardluck youth who tries to make it as a boxer in post-war Japan.
