And Yet, You Are So Sweet Live-action Film Releases Full Trailer featuring Theme Song by Naniwa Danshi
The official website for the forthcoming live-action film adaptation of Kujira Anan’s And Yet, You Are So Sweet romance shoujo manga has posted a full trailer featuring the theme song “Special Kiss” performed by Johnny & Associates’ seven-member boy idol group Naniwa Danshi.
This is the first time they have sung the theme song for a film, and the group’s 22-year-old member Kyohei Takahashi is cast as the film’s male protagonist, Sui Chigira. Meanwhile, 20-year-old actress Mei Hata (Mua / Kamen Rider Abaddon in Kamen Rider Zero-One the Movie: Real×Time) is cast as the main heroine Maaya Kisaragi.
The original was originally serialized in Pink, the extra issue of Kodansha’s Dessert shoujo/josei monthly manga magazine from 2017 to 2020, and has moved to Dessert since 2021. It has had seven tankobon volumes in Japan so far. Its English edition has been released by Kodansha USA since April 2021 with a synopsis as below:
Maaya Kisaragi, 16 years old, finally confessed to her crush…only to be flatly rejected and ridiculed on social media after. To make matters worse, the most popular guy in her grade, Chigira-kun, overheard her despondent muttering about the whole thing. But instead of making fun of her, he comforts her…and proposes an odd solution to her heartbreak!
Takehiko Shinjo, who has worked on many live-action film adaptations of popular romance manga, such as Kotomi Aoki’s I Give My First Love to You (2009), Ai Yazawa’s Paradise Kiss (2011), Ryo Ikuemi’s Kiyoku Yawaku (2013), Naoshi Arakawa’s Your Lie in April (2016), and Rin Mikimoto’s Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight (2019), is attached to direct on a screenplay by Haruka Okita. The film is set to be released in Japan on March 3, 2023.
