The official Twitter for Houbunsha’s Weekly Manga Times announced today that an anime adaptation of Yayu Murata’s Tsuma, Shogakusei ni Naru. (If My Wife Become An Elementary School Student.) manga is now in the works. This is the manga’s second adaptation following the live-action drama in 2022.
The manga was serialized in the magazine from 2018 to 2022, and its final 14th tankobon volume is released in Japan today on March 16. The story follows Keisuke Niijima, who lost his beloved wife, Takae, ten years ago, and their daughter, Mai. They have been in a state of despair since Takae’s death. Then one evening, an elementary school girl visited the Niijima family, claiming to be the reincarnation of Takae. At first they think it is a banter, but the girl continues to give them information that only the family knows. Keisuke and Mai recognize her as Takae, and the three begin to act together as a “family.
The author wrote on Twitter, “And an anime adaptation project of ‘Tsuma, Shogakusei ni Naru.’ is underway! The schedule is still undisclosed, but it may be in the not-so-distant future…?”
